Fables
As a child I loved hearing stories about Greek gods, pagan spirits, recent history, and folk tales from around the world. I try to tell as many as I can through my art pieces. What I love about these stores is the human yearning to try and break down the inconceivable to something that's familiar and understandable. Stories and narratives have been shared in every culture as a means of entertainment, education, cultural preservation, and instilling moral values. Storytelling brings understanding and meaning of human existence.
Silent films have contributed a lot to the way I make my characters. I am enchanted with the way the narrative is carried through a simple glance or small gesture. With my art I try to be an impartial observer and truthful storyteller, to create pieces that tell their own story. I do so in hopes of leaving room for the person seeing it to relate to it. I also aim to make pieces that would make them smile because humor, I believe, is the best form of communication.
Making these pieces is also a way for me to express myself. Each character carries within it a piece of my experience growing up and accepting the word around me.
